Washington [US], August 22: Prosecutors in Chicago said a woman was arrested on August 21 for allegedly sending emails threatening to shoot former US President Donald Trump and youngest son Barron Trump.
A formal complaint against Tracy Marie Fiorenza, 41, was filed earlier this month in Federal District Court for South Florida , according to Reuters. Prosecutors in Chicago (in the US state of Illinois) said Ms. Fiorenza resided in this city.
"I will declare that I will shoot Donald Trump Sr. and Barron Trump in the face whenever I get the chance!" Fiorenza is said to have written in an email in May, according to the complaint.
The email was sent to the leader of an educational institution in Palm Beach County, Florida, where Mr. Trump lives most of the time after leaving the White House.
In June, the woman is said to have sent another email threatening Mr. Trump, who is the leading Republican candidate on the 2024 US presidential race track, as well as his 17-year-old son . his, according to the lawsuit.
A representative for Ms. Fiorenza was not immediately available for comment.
In recent years, politically related violence and threatening behavior has increased in an increasingly polarized America. A Reuters report released earlier this month found such violence is at its worst since the 1970s.
Under US federal law, former presidents, their spouses and children under the age of 16 are protected for life by the US Secret Service.
