Jan 22, 2024

Capetown [South Africa], January 22: The Arab Parliament honored Sunday President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, for his contributions to Arab issues, announced parliament Speaker Adel Al-Asoomi.
While inaugurating parliament's second session, Al-Asoomi stated that this is but a simple gesture in recognition of South African stance by the Palestinian people.
He hailed South Africa's unprecedented step of going against Israeli occupation at the International Court of Justice over the situation in Gaza.
The top Arab parliamentarian commented saying that while this is a momentous step, it should be the first of many.
The modern world has not witnessed such a crisis before, and despite officials' statements, tangible change has yet to be made, stated Al-Asoomi.
Al-Asoomi lamented the state of the world saying that it had grown accustomed to genocide and the tragedy of martyrs has been reduced to numbers.
He further asserted that what is happening in Palestine, while the most dangerous situation by far, is a part of a chain of crises in Arab nations.
He underlined the situations in Sudan, Yemen and Libya saying they require mechanisms and unorthodox Arab solutions, and affirmed readiness of Arab Parliament to resolve these crises.
Al-Asoomi criticized the MoU between Ethiopia and what is known as Somaliland deeming it a threat to national Arab security. - KUNA
