At least 15 people killed in mudslide following rains in central China

Beijing [China], July 29: At least 15 people were killed and six were injured in a mudslide caused by flash flooding in China's central Hunan province, state broadcaster CCTB reported on Saturday.
A single-storey building, reported to be a house rented out to tourists, in the village of Yuelin was swept away by a landslide caused by heavy rains brought on by Typhoon Gaemi.
Gaemi had already caused significant damage and deaths in the Philippines and Taiwan.
Some 700 emergency responders are involved in the rescue efforts. The bad weather also caused havoc in other parts of the country.
A delivery courier was killed by a falling tree in Shanghai on Saturday, The Paper state newspaper reported.
In Jilin province in the north-east, 27,000 people had to be evacuated. Two other people are missing in Fujian, and some 300,000 residents were taken to secure accommodation China is regularly hit by heavy rains and flash floods, particularly during the summer months. (DPA)
