Apr 06, 2025

Ottawa [Canada], April 6: A man barricaded himself inside, forcing security forces to lock down the Canadian Parliament building and warn people to take cover.
AP news agency reported on April 6 that security forces sealed off the Canadian Parliament building after a man barricaded himself in the eastern area, while authorities urged people to "take cover."
Ottawa police and Parliament Protection Service (PPS) responded to the incident at the East Building on Wellington Street just before 3 p.m. local time on April 5 and later evacuated the area, Ottawa police said. The East Building is where senators and staff work.
PPS issued an alert at 2:45 p.m., urging people inside the building to "seek shelter in the nearest room, close and lock all doors and take cover," according to CTV News.
Dozens of police vehicles converged on the eastern building, while a bomb squad was also deployed. Police spoke to the man barricaded in, but his identity and other details were not immediately known.
Police said there were no injuries. Senator Patrick Brazeau posted a warning on social media and prayed for everyone to be safe.
Law enforcement sources said the situation was under control, while the lockdown remained in place. Residents were also asked to stay away from the area.
The Canadian Parliament is currently dissolved due to the upcoming federal election, so there is little activity going on there.
