Doctor sentenced for unnecessary surgery

Washington [USA], June 2: Accordingly, Dr. Daniel Castro, who worked at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital , was sentenced for falsifying medical records. The US Department of Justice said Castro lied about patients' symptoms and falsified CT scan results to justify unnecessary sinus surgeries .
In addition to the five-year sentence, Mr. Castro also had to pay nearly $2 million in compensation to patients and health insurance companies . According to the US Department of Justice, Mr. Castro violated the trust of patients when performing surgeries from February 2015 to May 2017. The patients had no idea their surgery was unnecessary.
This doctor pleaded guilty in April 2023. In court, this doctor admitted to fraudulently receiving more than $5 million from patients and insurance companies.
