Former Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman serves as ambassador to Cambodia

Mr. Wang worked as the 32nd spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs from July 2020 to May 2024. He once held the position of Chinese ambassador to Tunisia.
With the new appointment, Mr. Uong succeeds Mr. Vuong Van Thien , who has just completed his term as ambassador to Cambodia.
Mr. So Naro, a senior official under the Cambodian Prime Minister in charge of ASEAN affairs, said on June 5 that he had been informed by the Chinese Government that Mr. Wang would become the Chinese ambassador to Cambodia, but it was not certain that Mr. Wang would become the Chinese ambassador to Cambodia. Mr. Naro added that he considered Mr. Uong's appointment as ambassador a sign of strength in the relationship between the two countries. In addition, Cambodian government spokesman Pen Bona described Mr. Uong as an experienced diplomat and he believes that Mr. Uong will serve as a good bridge between Cambodia and China to maintain and deepen this diplomatic relationship, according to Khmer Times .
