Former foreign minister urges restart for Australia's UNRWA funding

Canberra [Australia], March 12: A former long-serving Australian foreign minister has urged the country to reinstate funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Gareth Evans, who served as Australian minister for foreign affairs between 1988 and 1996, on Monday said Australia should immediately reinstate funding to support UNRWA staff who he said were undertaking irreplaceable work to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Australia's governing Labor Party in January suspended 6 million Australian dollars (3.9 million U.S. dollars) in top-up funding for the UNRWA amid allegations that staff members were involved in the October 7 attacks on Israel.
