Iran's president slams U.S., West for supporting Israeli "crimes" in Gaza

Oct 29, 2023

Tehran [Iran], October 29: Iranian President EbrahimRaisi said on Saturday that the support provided by some Western countries, mostly by the United States, to Israel, has green-lighted its perpetration of the ongoing "crimes" in Gaza.
He made the remarks in a phone call with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, according to a statement published on the website of the Iranian president's office.
Raisi said that "the Palestinian nation is in need of the international community's effective and serious support and, especially, unity among Muslim states, to put an end to Israel's continuous crimes and killing in Gaza."
He highlighted the significant casualties among Palestinian women and children and the deplorable humanitarian situation in Gaza, saying these necessitated a "decisive, united and clear stance in support of the oppressed Palestinian people" by the Muslim countries.
The Qatari emir, for his part, said what is unfolding in Gaza today "is proof of (some) Western states' ignominious double standards," stressing that the regional and Muslim countries could "stop Israel through their unity."
He reaffirmed his country's position in support of the Palestinian people's "inalienable rights to self-determination and self-defense."
Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on Oct. 7, firing thousands of rockets and infiltrating Israeli territory, to which Israel responded with massive airstrikes, ground operations, and punitive measures, including a siege on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip with supplies of water, electricity, fuel, and other necessities being cut off.
The Israel-Hamas conflict, as it entered the 22nd day, has killed more than 7,700 Palestinians in Gaza and at least 1,400 people in Israel, according to official figures from both sides.
