Nearly 300 candidates nominated for 2024 Nobel Peace Prize: Nobel Institute

Washington [US], March 1: As many as 285 candidates have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2024, the Norwegian Nobel Institute said.
"The Norwegian Nobel Institute has registered a total of 285 candidates for this year's peace prize, of which 196 are individuals and 89 are organisations," the announcement read.
The institute added that it received 351 valid nominations last year, distributed among 259 individuals and 92 organizations, but the highest number of nominations ever - 376 candidates - was received in 2016.
The deadline for nominations for the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize expired on January 31, the announcement said.
Daily Mail reported earlier in February that Norwegian lawmaker Marius Nilsen nominated US billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk for the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize. According to the report, nominees for the prize include NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Colombian President Gustavo Petro, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, UK environmentalist David Attenborough, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Palestinian journalist Hind Khoudary and former US president Donald Trump.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate will be announced on October 11.
The laureate for the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences will be announced last, on October 14. (Sputnik)
