Pope Francis released from hospital after five weeks of treatment

Mar 24, 2025

Rome [Italy], March 24: Pope Francis was discharged from hospital on Sunday after surviving a life-threatening bout of pneumonia, but is urged by doctors to greatly reduce his workload for at least two months.
The pontiff left the Gemelli Hospital in western Rome, where he had been hospitalized since mid-February.
A frail-looking Francis earlier made his first public appearance since being hospitalized, thanking the thousands gathered outside the clinic while sitting in a wheelchair on a balcony.
"Ringrazio tutti!" (Thank you all), he said in Italian to cheers and shouted wishes of good health.
The head of the medical team that has been treating the pope, Sergio Alfieri, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by the prominent patient. (DPA)
