President Biden admits making mistake with statement 'putting Mr. Trump in the bull's eye'

Jul 16, 2024

Washington [US], July 16: US President Joe Biden admitted to using inappropriate language during a private call with donors.
Days before the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump , US President Joe Biden called donors and said 'it's time to put Trump in the bull's eye'.
In an interview with NBC News host Lester Holt, which aired on July 15, President Biden said he should not have used the above words. "It was a mistake to use the words. I wanted to focus on Mr. Trump, focus on what he is doing, on the policies, as well as the lies at the debate," according to Mr. Biden.
In the wake of Trump's failed assassination attempt on July 13 in Pennsylvania, a flurry of questions and conspiracy theories have emerged on social media. Some Republican lawmakers have blamed the Democratic campaign for inciting the shooting, including Biden's comments about using the term "bull's-eye," which is used to refer to the center of targets used in shooting practice or competitions.
Also in an interview with NBC, President Biden affirmed that his spirit is "still very clear", emphasizing his decision to continue running for election, despite many calls to withdraw and doubts about his age, especially after the debate on June 27 and the "gaffes" at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit last week.
"I'm old, but I'm only three years older than Mr. Trump, number one. Number two, I'm still mentally sharp. Over the past three years, I've done more than any recent president. I'm willing to take that assessment," Mr. Biden said.
The interview is seen as an attempt by President Biden to restore his image, as his election standing has been damaged by recent incidents.
