President Biden gives first TV interview since debate

Jul 06, 2024

Washington DC [US], July 6: President Biden had an interview with ABC News on July 5, at a time when his campaign schedule at this time plays an important role in restoring the trust of his supporters, after the debate on June 27.
"It was a bad night. I was exhausted and I didn't follow my instincts in preparing," Biden said in the interview. He emphasized that it was an unexpected moment, not a sign of more serious problems to come.
Asked why President Biden did not get enough rest after a busy international travel schedule, the White House chief said he was sick. "The doctors tested me for any infectious diseases, but it turned out I just had a bad cold," Biden said, adding that as president, he undergoes cognitive testing every day.
The incumbent president revealed that he had not rewatched his debate performance, and took responsibility for his disappointing performance. "The whole time I was preparing, it was no one's fault, it was all my fault," he said.
Many Democratic voters were upset with Joe Biden's performance in the debate against his predecessor Donald Trump. This event also caused many major donors to announce that they would stop spending money on the Democratic campaign if no candidate was found to replace Mr. Biden. Democratic lawmakers were also divided on whether to support Mr. Biden to continue running or find another candidate.
During the interview, he also stated that "only Almighty God" could force him to withdraw. Before his scheduled interview with ABC News, Mr. Biden spoke to the crowd at a campaign rally in Wisconsin on July 5, emphasizing that he would continue to run for another term in the White House, according to Reuters.
"I am the nominee of this party (Democrats). They are trying to push me out of the race. Let me be clear: I will stay in the race and I will defeat Donald Trump," Mr. Biden told the crowd of supporters.
