Apr 14, 2024

Istanbul [Turkey], April 14: The last remaining person out of 184 stranded mid-air after Friday's cable-car crash in southern Turkey has been rescued, disaster authority AFAD head Okay Memis said on Saturday.
The cable-car service spans over 1.7 kilometres from Antalya city centre to Tünektepe hill. State news agency Anadolu reported that one of the cable-car masts had fallen over and that a cabin hit it and crashed into rocky terrain.
The accident comes during a busy season, coinciding with the Eid Al Fitr holiday, marking the end of Muslim holy month Ramadan.
The cable car is said to have been in operation since 2017 and consists of 36 cabins. It transports its guests to the summit of Tünektepe at a height of 605 metres above sea level.
The journey takes around nine minutes. There is room for six people in each cabin. It can transport 1,200 people per hour. (DPA)
