The President of Ukraine suddenly replaced the commander of the special forces

Nov 04, 2023

Kyiv [Ukraine], November 4: Ukrainian President VolodymyrZelensky suddenly appointed a new commander of the special forces, a unit that is said to have conducted many military operations in Russian-controlled territories.
In a nightly video speech on November 3, Ukrainian President VolodymyrZelensky said Colonel SerhiyLupanchuk would now command the special forces and described Lupanchuk as "an experienced officer, combat officer and appropriate commander", according to Reuters.
President Zelensky added that Lupanchuk's predecessor, Major General Viktor Horenko, who has been in command of the special forces since July 2022, "will continue to carry out special tasks" in the General Intelligence Department of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
Mr. Zelensky did not give any further explanation about the new personnel change. Mr. Horenko said in an interview that he was not informed at all. "I don't know why myself. I learned this from the media," Horenko said in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda.
Ukraine's special forces are believed to be behind the most complex operations carried out by the Ukrainian military in Russian-controlled areas, especially the Crimean peninsula.
Ukraine's special forces are also responsible for military information and psychological activities, as well as organizing protests in Russian-controlled territories.
President Zelensky this week praised the Ukrainian military for reducing Russia's military power in the Black Sea through increased drone and drone attacks on Russian military targets.
President Zelensky has rejected Western criticism that the Ukrainian counterattack launched in June is taking place too slowly. Meanwhile, Zaluzhniy's commander-in-chief this week said that the war had entered a period of static, attrition and benefit for Russia, according to Reuters.
