UAE proposes preparation of 'parliamentary strategic framework' for Asian cooperation on sustainable development

Baku [Azerbaijan], February 23: The Parliamentary Division of the Federal National Council (FNC) has proposed the preparation of a "Parliamentary Strategic Framework for Asian Cooperation on Achieving Sustainable Development", during its participation in the 14th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), which opened today in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Tariq Humaid Al Tayer, First Deputy Speaker of the FNC and Chairman of the Parliamentary Division, said the UAE initiative aims to enhance parliamentary cooperation by encouraging the organisation of periodic events involving members of Asian parliaments to exchange experiences and promote mutual understanding on sustainable development issues, and to encourage parliaments to adopt policies and laws that promote regional cooperation and direct efforts towards achieving sustainable development goals.
The initiative, he added, also contributes to strengthening cooperation between parliaments and international organisations concerned with sustainable development issues to exchange expertise in a way that focuses efforts towards achieving regional cooperation and promoting sustainable development to improve the quality of life and ensure societal stability.
Al Tayer is leading the UAE delegation to the meeting, which is being convened under the theme "Fostering regional cooperation for sustainable development in Asia''.
