Jun 30, 2023

Dhaka [Bangladesh], June 30: The unit-2 of a thermal power plant, which is co-invested and constructed by a Chinese company, has been successfully connected to the power grid in Bangladesh.
The construction of the SS Power I Project began in December 2018 by China's SEPCOIII. Unit-1, one of the two units, has been operational since the end of May.
The plant is one of the largest thermal power stations in Bangladesh, Project Manager Wang Jian told Xinhua, adding that the total investment of the project is about 2.42 billion U.S. dollars and generate 10 billion kWh electricity per year after completion, which will alleviate the shortage of electricity in Bangladesh to a large extent.
According to Wang, the power plant, located in Banshakhali city in Chattogram division, adopts seawater directly-cooling and seawater desulfurization technology to minimize the impact on the environment with efficient power output.
The project provided more than 8,000 direct jobs during the construction peak period, and more than 40,000 indirect employment positions, which greatly promotes local employment and economic development, and cultivates a large number of units of similar types of units in Bangladesh.
