US announces new $500 mn weapons package for Ukraine

Washington [US], June 28: US Defence Department on Tuesday announced a new package of military equipment for Ukraine worth$500 mn.
The shipment will include ammunition for Patriot air defence systems, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, Stinger air defence systems, equipment for mine clearance as well as thermal imaging systems and night vision equipment.
The United States is Ukraine's vital ally in its defensive struggle against the Russian invasion.
According to Pentagon figures, the US has provided or pledged military aid worth around $40.5 bn to Kiev since the war began at the end of February 2022.
"This package includes key capabilities that will support Ukraine's counteroffensive operations," White House Deputy Press Secretary Olivia Dalton said.
It's the 41st time since the Russian invasion into Ukraine in February 2022 that the US has provided military weapons and equipment through presidential drawdown authority. (DPA)
